I'm in a totally motivated place :-)
I have been meaning to post more, but I am dog tired by the end of each day.
I'm in my 3rd week of my Max fitness program, and I've been sticking with the nutrition wholeheartedly.
My weight is still hovering at 174.6 / 175ish but it just has to come down in time. I must be building muscle since my weight hasn't dropped so substantially and I'm eating on my plan. Also note: for the first three weeks of the plan, the calorie level is higher than the rest of the time in the interest of revving up your metabolism.
I'm eating very clean: each morning, I have a smoothie with a handful of spinach, pasteurized egg whites, 1 cup or berries or a banana or both, for lunch it's something like steel cut oatmeal and a table spoon of almond butter, snack is 1.5 oz of nuts, dinner: salmon and veggies… stuff like that. I am eating a number of times a day to get in the proper protein, veggies, carbs and healthy fats.
NO dairy, which is a big change-- no cheese. But I hardly miss it.
And: 1 cheat meal per week.
It's going to take time, but now that I am on a program that I feel that I can sustain, I can be 'mostly' patient. At times, of course, I feel incredibly impatient and annoyed and I keep reminding myself that I must stay the course.
Onward with new pictures very soon.

What is Max fitness? For Vanessa... and any other interested folks
Max fitness is a fitness/ nutrition/ coaching and motivation program that just came to my area that starts with a '10 week challenge.' (It has been very popular in the Southern part of NJ and now it is moving North!)
Anyhow: the program consists of--
5 days per week of intensive exercise program (you are meant to go every day and to the same class and class time, if you can)
Monday-cardio, Tuesday-arms, Wednesday-cardio, Thursday-legs, Friday-kickboxing
Saturdays and Sundays - you're on your own (my plan: *active* rest with walking and stretching)
The nutrition program is broken into several parts:
The first 3 weeks is the most food, as I described in my earlier post.
The 2nd 3 weeks begins 'carb cycling' where you drop a carb every other day (I can't recall on which days, but it is targeted to your exercise day)
The next 2 weeks is further carb cycling with less carbs (veggies are ALWAYS allowed, so the carbs that are cut are things like beans, oatmeal, and grains)
The final 2 weeks is pretty hard core-- I think it is NO carbs and basically veggies and protein with fats.
One week at a time!!!
Oh and there is a weekly 'cheat' meal allowed, you have to drop your fat, protein, and carb portions for the day of your cheat meal and try not to go bananas, but enjoy. They encourage the cheat meal!!
No dairy allowed, gluten is eventually a big no-no (works for Vanessa!!!) and no alcohol, except when you do your cheat, if you like.
I expect to do well with this program-- it has brought around a major change for me in a sudden way and I am very motivated to succeed.
Join me in any way you like-- I've completed week 1 and would be happy to have anyone come along on my 'challenge' to reduce by an average of 2 pounds per week (a BIG AUDACIOUS goal-- but that's fine...) and get very fit.
Cheers!!

Still here... barely time to post
So I made it through my first 5 days of Max Fitness- this weekend is 'rest' time... though I believe I'll be walking and also doing some stretching at the very least. 45 Minute intensive workout each day ! Back to that on Monday.
The diet program is heavy duty to begin with-- meant to rev your metabolism, not necessarily promote an immediate weight drop.. and since I was eating like shit leading up to this: my weight is not where I want it to be at all.
I started the week at 178.2 and hopefully will be down a pound by the end of this week. They say not to worry, follow the program and the weight will drop. Today's weight: 176.4.
I am following the program to the letter- and it has completely cut off all of my cravings. It is a very stringent program, here's what I've been eating:
2 servings of fruit
2 9.5 oz containers of lean protein
1-2 9.5 oz containers of carbs (sweet potatoes, irish oatmeal, beans)
3 fats (2 tbs natural almond butter, 1tbs olive oil)
veggies-- LOTS of salad and 'detoxing' veggies like cucumbers, beets, cucumber, cauliflower
soy creamer or almond milk/ soy milk as 'condiments' (sparingly for coffee)
NO soda, NO crystal light, NO dairy!
After the 3rd week, the carbs begin begin cut down (not fruits or veg, just the 'carbs') and I do believe the weight will drop more quickly. But I will also be building some muscle, so the scale could move slow.
Wish I hadn't started at such a high-- but it is where it is. I'm now doing well on the program and am committed to seeing results! The best thing: I'm really not craving food or struggling to stick with it.
I admit, I had a can of coke zero last night... but if that's the worst I'm going to do: I'm good!
Oh: and 1 x per week you get a 'cheat meal' (You give up a carb, protein and fat to make caloric room for it)-- my choice is to enjoy, but keep it conservative:
I plan to have a nice glass of red wine and either two or three pieces of halloween mini candy (this will help me NOT feel deprived for Halloween!) The 'cheat meal' will be on Sunday evening. Then right back to it on Monday.
I'm editing to add that I am getting into a habit of starting the day with my own recipe of 'detoxing cucumber water'-- which is simple to make and very 'clean' tasting. Also helps me get in my required vegetables for the day:
Recipe:
1 cucumber (or a bit less, depending on size), peeled, chopped
1 cup of water
lemon juice to taste
Throw in high speed blender and blend until liquid-- drink and enjoy.
I believe that this simple day starter may be part of what is helping shut off daily cravings, along with cutting out virtually all processed foods and dairy.
